Mission statement

MISSION STATEMENT

What does SIG 18 stand for?

Everyone would agree: Education matters! But what makes education effective and how can we improve it? Which ways can be employed to measure its effectiveness and improvement? SIG 18 provides a forum for discussing approaches related to answering such questions. We are researchers from different disciplines all over the world and are conducting research related to all educational settings using a variety of research methods. Examples of topics we are interested in are:

  • Developing and testing frameworks, models, and theories of what constitutes high quality teaching and schooling
  • Finding ways to measure teaching quality aspects from different perspectives
  • Linking educational effectiveness and improvement
  • Improving teaching quality and schooling based on interventions
  • Developing and applying adequate measurement approaches for complex educational processes Evaluating schools and educational systems
  • Analyzing how schools develop over time

What activities does SIG 18 pursue?

  • Organizing the SIG18 conference and the SIG18 JURE pre-conference biannually
  • Holding symposia at different conferences (e.g., EARLI, AERA, ICSEI, ECER)
  • Authoring and editing special issues and books
  • Implementing innovative formats for discussing hot topics

What do you get as a member of SIG 18?

  • Regular newsletters with SIG 18 specific information (e.g., members, publications) and information about the EARLI network in general
  • Opportunities for discussing hot topics with the community interested in educational effectiveness and improvement
  • Invitations to participate in symposia, special issues, and edited books

Please note that since autumn 2020, SIG 18 consists of the former SIG 18 Educational Effectiveness and SIG 23 Educational Accountability and Improvement.

If you have any questions, please e-mail us at any time: SIG18@earli.org
