SIG 21 - Learning and Teaching in Culturally Diverse Settings

This SIG brings together researchers and practitioners who share an interest in processes of learning and teaching in multifaceted educational settings as well as everyday life, spurred by issues of heterogeneity, diversity, and a European region increasingly distinguished by multiple language use(s). SIG 21’s focus includes cross-cultural interactions including identities, discourses and practices in all kinds of education environments and participatory decision making processes.

 

Attention is given to sharing transformative practices in education including antiracist, decolonial, participatory, and sustainability perspectives with regard to the increasing acknowledgment of the continuing silences on issues of center-peripheries also in the domain of educational sciences and research on learning.

This requires closer attention to theoretical and empirical research work conducted about specific practices, processes, interactions within and across social and cultural communities, outcomes and the construction of meaning(s) by the agents and participants involved. By conceiving SIG 21 as an exchange platform on international research, we aim to stimulate further in-depth studies of diversity-related processes and the experiences of learners, teachers and members of the communities involved. The core objective of SIG 21 is understanding and addressing the richness and potential of the complexities, challenges, and collaborations that arise within these diverse contexts.

We kindly invite all researchers and practitioners to join the SIG 21. The SIG is committed to creating multiple formats to exchange and discuss the research of its members such as biannual meetings, master classes, ongoing social media and web exchanges, and inter-SIG events, like joint symposia and conferences.
